A useful preview has an audience
Apple’s announcement describes giving the person in front of the camera a view of the frame on the outer display. Our reason to include Camera is the feedback loop: the person being photographed can help check the composition.
Start with a simple framing task, such as keeping a person’s hands and head inside the picture. Ask the subject what they can see on the preview rather than assuming the display is useful at every distance.
Check the frame you actually record
Use a stable surface and choose a short test. Compare the preview with the saved image or video. Inspect the edges of the result, especially if you changed orientation or camera before capture.
Then try the task with the device propped up. Check the view, stability and access to the shutter separately. Our checklist is not a recommendation to balance the phone on an unsafe edge.

Capture and export are different checkpoints
A good preview is not the finished result. If you take the clip into Detail, inspect the crop and captions again after export. Each stage can change the frame.
Keep the original file until you have checked the final output. The create-and-capture collection pairs these stages without claiming a tested automatic transfer between apps.
Make a useful capture report
Record the camera selected, orientation and whether the phone was held or propped up. Those details help someone repeat the result. Do not publish a photograph of someone just to prove that a feature exists.
For live conversations using different displays, read FaceTime. Its camera behavior belongs to a call and should not be inferred from a successful photo test.

Use these prompts when you have the app and device in hand. They are a test plan, not reported test results.
- Compare the subject’s preview with the saved frame.
- Check orientation in the actual output file.
- Stabilize the device before hands-free capture.
- Keep the original when checking an edited export.
